Jam Cruise Announces Lineup for Next Trip

Jam Cruise 9 2011

Some concert-goers enjoy dry, solid ground for their sonic surroundings. Others wish there had been even more water at the Acura Stage during the first weekend of Jazz Fest this year. For the latter, and other lovers of the seas, great news arrived on Monday from Jam Cruise, who announced the artist lineup for their ninth voyage.

Headlining Jam Cruise 9 are a couple of projects from Grateful Dead alumni: Scaring Children, a condensed version of Dead guitarist Bob Weir’s former RatDog band that includes Weir, Rob Wasserman, and Jay Lane; and Rhythm Devils, which features Dead drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart.

The lineup leans heavily on New Orleans artists, including Galactic, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Anders Osborne (who will play separate sets with two different lineups, one with Stanton Moore and Robert Walter and one with George Porter, Jr. and Johnny Vidacovich), and Big Sam’s Funky Nation. There will also be some additional New Orleans flavor provided by Leo Nocentelli and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, two of this year’s special guests, musicians who sit in with various bands throughout Jam Cruise’s shows and activities.

The cruise hits the water January 4 through January 9, 2011, leaving from Ft. Lauderdale and making stops in Roatan, Honduras and Costa Maya, Mexico. Pre-booking is already closed, but the general tickets go on sale June 2. For more info see jamcruise.com.
