Luna Fête Back To Light

Parts of the Central Business District and Central City will light up on November 29 through December 5, as the second Luna Fête, a series of light installation by artists from around the world, comes to town.

LUNA (Light Up NOLA Arts) Fête is an initiative that was launched last year by the Arts Council of New Orleans, displaying series of installations that merge contemporary light, motion graphics and video-mapping practices. This year’s installations will be found in Lafayette Square, along Julia Street and Oretha Castle Haley corridors.

“LUNA Fête fuses the city’s growing tech community with the existing cultural experience,” explained President and Chief Executive Officer of the Arts Council Kim Cook in a public statement. “By showcasing cutting-edge technology, we advance New Orleans’ reputation, not only as an epicenter of artistry, but also as a burgeoning hot spot for tech and entrepreneurship to rival major metropolitan cities throughout the country.”

Roamers in the neighborhood will be able to enjoy installation from OCUBO, the leading Portuguese multimedia atelier specializing in interactive, participatory installations; Jen Lewin an internationally renowned light and interactive sculptor; and Miwa Matreyek, whose projects integrate animation and live performance via projection.

OCUBO’s installation will illuminate the facade of Ashé’s Power House Theatre, combining the work of the Portuguese team and local artists working with children. The projection will showcase a theatrical play that features children from Ashé’s KUUMBA Institute and St. Martin’s Academy.

Matreyek will present live performance pieces entitled  “Myth and Infrastructure” and “This World Made Itself,” at the Contemporary Arts Center on December 4 and 5.

Lewin’s “The Pool” will be located in Lafayette Square, and consists of an interactive ground installation made of concentric circles created from circular pads.

Last year, the inaugural Luna Fête attracted more than 15,000 people according to the Arts Council. More information can be found on their website.
