Pop-culture satire reigns supreme at November’s Nerdlesque Festival

This fall, the NOLA Nerdlesque Festival returns for a reboot of its inimitable event. Blending burlesque, nerd humor, pop culture and more, the annual affair celebrates and satirizes everything from science fiction to horror.

Housed in the Contemporary Arts Center November 16 and at the Allways Lounge and Theatre’s Twilight Room on November 17, the fourth annual NOLA Nerdlesque Festival will feature Stripped Crusaders, a show where super heroes strip off the spandex;  Tease from the Cryptfilled with movie monsters and murderers; Cyburlesque, a robotic, laser powered, sci-fi show; and Just Drawn That Waya revue of animated and video game characters.

The festival is curated and presented by local burlesque producers Remy Dee, Persé Fanny, Vincent Gallant, Sable Switch, and Honey Tangerine, with Fanny acting as Artistic Director. The festival will include appearances by over 40 performers from around the country including featured acts by local burlesque performers Phathoms Deep, Piper Marie, Juno, and May Hemmer. “Everyone is a nerd about something,” says Perse. “We have everything from films, tv-shows, literature, comic books, video games and more. It is funny, innovative, and empowering.”
