New Orleans Jazz Museum announces inaugural gala fundraiser

On Saturday, December 8, the New Orleans Jazz Museum will host its inaugural Improvisations Gala, a fundraiser featuring musical performances, live painting, food, cocktails and more.

The main gala begins at 8 p.m. and takes place throughout the galleries and campus of the Jazz Museum (400 Esplanade Ave.). There, some of the city’s best restaurants will provide the cuisine, while noted local artist Emilie Rhys will put on a live painting demonstration. Jazz clarinetist Evan Christopher and other musicians will provide live entertainment.

Before the main gala, at 7 p.m., there will be an exclusive party open only to museum patrons. Jon Batiste and the Trombone Shorty Academy will perform, while Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Sazerac will serve up food and beverages. Renowned music photographer, Curtis Knapp, will be on site to provide patrons the opportunity to have a portrait taken.

Furthermore, the Jazz Museum itself will be treated to something special. In partnership with the Arts Council of New Orleans, artists involved with lighting displays during LUNA Fête will create a visual work of art with the Museum’s architecture.

“We’re so excited to debut our inaugural Improvisations Gala and spotlight the creative communities of New Orleans, combined with the educational, artistic and inspirational aspects of improvisation,” says Jazz Museum Director Greg Lambousy. “There’s no better way to do that than showcasing New Orleans artists. We invite everyone to come and experience a night of incredible food, music, dance and visual art.”

One-hundred per cent of proceeds from the gala go directly towards the Jazz Museum’s educational and music programming, which bolster its mission of promoting jazz worldwide.

Early-bird tickets are available for a discounted rate (starting at $60) through November 15. Gala sponsorships begin at $250 and include entry into the Patron Party. For more information, click here.
