Photos: The Meters Reunite for Guest-Filled Show at the Orpheum Theater

The Original Meters reunited with an augmented lineup for a guest-laden extravaganza at the Orpheum Theater on Friday night. Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli, Zigaboo Modeliste and George Porter Jr. were flanked by additional keyboardist Ivan Neville and a horn section comprised of Khris Royal, Tracy Griffin, Jeff Albert and Clarence Johnson III for most of their show, which burned through a series Meters classics like “Fire on the Bayou,” “All Asked for You,” “Cissy Strut” and “Hey Pocky Way.”

Gov’t Mule/Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes and Parliament-Funkadelic key master Bernie Worrell joined the fray about halfway through the set for “Just Kissed My Baby,” while singer Grace Potter contributed her talents to “Ain’t No Use.” Hometown hero Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews also jumped in for “Be My Lady,” a track that marked the four original Meters’ first recorded collaboration in years when it appeared on Shorty’s 2013 album Say That to Say This.
