Trinidadian street food and music collide at Soca Fête Mini Festival

Organizers of the annual NOLA Caribbean Festival have announced a satellite event which celebrates the music, food and culture of Trinidad.

August 4’s Soca Fête Mini Festival will feature Caribbean DJs as well as venerated New Orleans selector DJ Raj Smoove, who together will spin high-energy Soca music while attendees dine on Trinidadian street food.  Soca artist and American-born Trini Imani  Ray (who appeared at June’s NOLA Caribbean Fest) will perform.

In addition to $3 beer and $6 mixed drinks, festival goers will be served some classic Trini dishes. As reported by Gambit, Queen Trini Lisa will be on deck to serve up doubles, deep fried turmeric flatbread stuffed with goodies. “Barbecued jerk chicken, oxtail, goat curry and codfish sandwiches. Nola Island Connection will serve curried chicken, stewed chicken, coconut rolls, roti and curry mango and ‘drunken’ plantains will also be on the menu. Eight arts and crafts vendors will be on site, too.

The family friendly Soca Fête Mini Festival takes place at Roux Carre (2000 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.) and runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are only $10 and are available here.
