WWOZ Piano Night 2015 to Honor Henry Butler

WWOZ is getting ready to host their 27th annual Piano Night at the House of Blues on Monday, April 27.

George Rodrigue Paints Blue Dog PianoThe event will feature the internationally renowned Robert Glasper Experiment, the Internet sensation 12 year old virtuoso Joey Alexander, Cuban pianist Jorge Luis Pacheco, Ike Stubblefield and Nigel Hall, as well as local acts by Brian Coogan, Joe Krown, Meghan Swartz, David Torkanowsky, and Kyle Roussel.

A special performance and award presentation will be held in honor of New Orleans legendary jazz and blues pianist Henry Butler.

This year’s stage will feature the Rodrigue Steinway “Blue Dog Piano,” a 100 year-old Steinway & Sons piano that was fully restored by the Hall Piano Company of New Orleans and used as a canvas by the late local painter George Rodrigue for the George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts in 2012.

The Rodrigue Foundation also donated a Blue Dog Print entitled “Take Five” to be raffled off at Piano Night. The print was signed by a variety of New Orleans musicians including Bill Summers, Stanton Moore, Christian Scott, Branford Marsalis, Leroy Jones, George Porter Jr., Deacon John, Kermit Ruffins and many others who passed through the WWOZ studios in the last several months.

The House of Blues will open its doors for its Patron Party at 5 p.m., and for general admission at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are available online and will benefit WWOZ.
