YouTube du Jour: Matthew Dear Ticket Giveaway

With throbbing beats and hypnotic vocals, Matthew Dear’s electronic music is an exercise in minimalism. Born in Texas and based in New York, Dear has been producing his unique brand of sultry, pulsing techno for over ten years, both under his own name and with the aliases False, Jabberjaw, and Audion. His 2003 single “Dog Days” became an international club hit (voted into Pitchfork Media’s Top 100 Songs of the Decade), while his new album Black City is an aural portrait of Dear’s conceptual futuristic metropolis. A combination of grinding beats and sunny ambient pop, Black City is sure to translate into a live show of pounding, wickedly dark proportions. Matthew Dear plays at 10 p.m. Thursday night at the Howlin’ Wolf with his backing band His Big Hands with electro DJ Carmine P. Filthy opening (Filthy also plays Voodoo’s Le Plur dance tent on Saturday at 1 p.m.).
