Zydeco Royalty: Rockin’ Dopsie Jr. and Dwayne Dopsie

If Clifton Chenier was the king of zydeco music, Alton “Rockin’ Dopsie” Rubin, a master of the button accordion, was its crown prince. Like Chenier, Dopsie was devoted to preserving the old-style creole songs that formed the basis of zydeco. Today, as much out of respect for zydeco music as for their father’s legacy, the sons of Rockin’ Dopsie have attempted to carry on this style of playing in their own music.
