Slim, Red, La La, Tee Tee, Foots, Nose, String Bean, Snowflake, Half A Head, June, Daddy, Pipes, Buck, Pee Wee, Queenie, Stale Bread, Turkey Neck, Groovy, Okey Dokey: sometimes it seems like every musician in New Orleans has a nickname.

Some are so ingrained that the public doesn't even realize it isn't the artists real name, but in fact an appellation. Nicknames are rarely invented by the individual who is hung with the moniker; the rare exception though is "Dr. John" and "Apache Red." So...
