Letters to the Editor, OffBeat Magazine June 2020

May 28, 2020 by: OffBeat Readers Leave a comment

Super Potluck

Thank you so much for sending the Super Potluck. I am excited to have some things to read that are not on a screen. I really love OffBeat Magazine and all of the hard work that you do to support the Louisiana musicians. You [Joseph Irrera] and Jan [Ramsey] are true treasures to New Orleans. We miss New Orleans tremendously and hope to be back soon!

—Jeff & Kristen Danielsen, Wilmette, Illinois

Music Heroes

Mac looks so pleased, relaxed and content. I’m more than sure, that he’s laying some Crescent City jive funk on all the cats in the band up there. The art work is impeccable, should sell like hot cakes.

—John Hellier, London, United Kingdom

Challenges

I can’t imagine the challenges and I hoped to be in New Orleans for month of April, but put off for who knows how long, maybe October, maybe not until next April.

I cannot imagine all your [OffBeat’s] challenges.

—Ray Funk, Fairbanks, Alaska

Louisiana Music Factory

This letter is in response to our news post “Louisiana Music Factory Closes Its Doors.”

Barry is the one of the best things about NOLA music. His business and the local musicians who sell their products through Barry can be supported by online sales.

—John Preble, Abita Springs, Louisiana

Ben Jaffe

This letter is in response to Jan Ramsey’s interview with Ben Jaffe (May 2020 digital issue).

I just read your convo with Ben Jaffe, and I wanted you to know that it was just terrific moving, thoughtful, provocative, touching, funny, musical, social, and political.

I was particularly struck by how Ben’s views the Hall’s [Preservation Hall] mission statement, that he’s always tweaking it, that’s it’s an ongoing meditation.

—Leo Sacks, Cold Spring, New York
