They helped put the “F” in Funk.  In the ‘70s and ‘80s, the Barkays had the reputation as one of the wildest funk bands around.  Their live shows included outrageous costumes, bizarre hairdos and a snake.  During that time, they recorded 21 albums (5 gold and 1 platinum), had 20 top ten records and toured with Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, Lakeside and others.  The Barkays first big break in the music business came in 1966 when they were hired as one of the house bands at Stax Rec...
