Ace Hotel New Orleans Unveils Latest Artist in Residence

Ace Hotel New Orleans is set to unveil its latest installation tomorrow as part of its renowned Artist in Residence (AIR) program. Knitwear designer Donaka Katherine will introduce her much-anticipated DK Knitwear Wedding Collection, aiming to encapsulate the unique joy of a New Orleanian wedding.

Drawing inspiration from the city’s rich architectural heritage and the intricate decoration of second-line umbrellas, Katherine’s collection ventures into uncharted territory with the unexpected medium of knitwear. The pieces blend texture, color, and craftsmanship to capture the essence of New Orleans’ vibrant wedding culture.

The exhibition will kick off with a dazzling runway show, showcasing Katherine’s innovative designs. Following the show, attendees will be treated to a traditional second-line procession, leading them to the gallery space where the collection will be on display. The exhibition is slated to remain open until July, offering ample opportunity for both locals and visitors to experience Katherine’s unique vision.

Ace Hotel’s Artist in Residence program, now a cornerstone of the hotel’s cultural offerings, provides a platform for artists from diverse backgrounds to showcase their work. Quarterly, artists are invited to transform one of the hotel’s rooms into their studio for a month, allowing them the time and space to create. The resulting body of work is then exhibited at Ace Hotel and shared with the public.

Since its inception in 2014, the AIR program has hosted an impressive array of talents, including Antonia Kuo, Rashaad Newsome, and Ocean Vuong, among others. The program’s partnership with various creative collectives and art institutions has helped foster a dynamic and inclusive environment for artistic expression.

Ace Hotel New Orleans continues to be a vital hub for creativity and cultural exchange, and Katherine’s DK Knitwear Wedding Collection promises to be another exciting addition to the hotel’s artistic legacy. For more information about the Artist in Residence program at Ace Hotel New Orleans, visit the Ace Hotel website.
