Built on Zydeco, a documentary directed by Milton Arceneaux and Dustin Cravins and produced by Robert Chevalier, will screen this week at the 29th New Orleans French Film Festival, scheduled for March 19–24, 2026.
The film will screen on March 20 at the Prytania Theatre Uptown in New Orleans, with a 6:15 p.m. showing followed by a filmmaker Q&A.
Filmed in Louisiana’s Creole Country, Built on Zydeco documents the musicians, families, and communities connected to Zydeco music and Creole culture. The project examines the traditions, language, and lived experiences associated with the genre and its role within Louisiana’s cultural landscape.
The New Orleans French Film Festival is among the longest-running Francophone film festivals in the United States, presenting films from Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and North America.
The film was supported by the #CreateLouisiana French Culture Film Grant, which supports projects focused on French and Creole cultural preservation in Louisiana.
Featured in the documentary are Terrance Simien, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr., Keith Frank, and additional artists.
