Congo Square Rhythms Festival Returns to Louis Armstrong Park

The Congo Square Rhythms Festival will return to Louis Armstrong Park March 28–29, bringing two days of music, dance and cultural celebration to the historic Tremé site. Presented by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and Cox Communications, the free festival highlights the African and Afro-Caribbean traditions that shaped New Orleans culture.

The event will feature live performances by artists including Cha Wa, Zigaboo Modeliste, New Breed Brass Band, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Kyle Roussel’s Church of New Orleans, Tonya Boyd-Cannon, the Jamal Batiste Band, Charmaine Neville Band, Lil’ Glenn and Backatown, Preservation Brass, Juice, Jonte Mayon, Big Six Brass Band, Ado Soul & the Tribe, Higher Heights Reggae and The Maroons.

In addition to live music, the festival will showcase a series of African dance presentations from groups such as Nkiruka Dance, Kumbuka Dance Ensemble, N’Kafu N Culu, N’Fungola Sibo, Free Spirit Walkers and Bamboula 2000.

One of the weekend highlights will be the Jamal Batiste Band, scheduled to perform Saturday, March 28 at 5 p.m. on the Congo Square Stage.
