Historic New Orleans Collection to Host Free Community Day Celebrating Music & Art

The The Historic New Orleans Collection will host a free, family-friendly Community Day on Saturday, April 11, offering a lively mix of music, storytelling, and interactive cultural experiences. Presented in partnership with Young Audiences of Louisiana, the event invites attendees to explore the deep connections between New Orleans music, history, and visual art.

Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HNOC’s Royal Street campus, the day’s programming includes hands-on activities, gallery talks, and live musical demonstrations. Highlights range from a “Hear the Revolution” drum demonstration and an organ performance to appearances by the Young Audiences Charter School Jazz Band and Girls Play Trumpets Too, directed by Troy Sawyer. Storytelling sessions will feature Baba Roscoe Reddix, Jr. and Briceshanay Gresham, while a special gallery talk with trailblazer Dodie Smith-Simmons offers additional historical insight.

Admission is free and open to the public, with no registration required. Visitors interested in viewing American Revolution: The Augmented Exhibition should reserve separate timed-entry tickets in advance.

Community Day aims to create an engaging space for families and individuals to connect with New Orleans’ rich musical heritage through performance, education, and art—bringing the city’s cultural legacy to life for audiences of all ages. For more information, click here.
