JAMNOLA, New Orleans’ first experiential cultural museum, has announced Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr. as its new Cultural Ambassador. A celebrated figure in the city’s cultural landscape, Bo Dollis Jr. is known for his role as bandleader of the Wild Magnolias and as the son of the legendary Big Chief Bo Dollis Sr.
In conjunction with this announcement, JAMNOLA will also donate $1 from every ticket sold throughout December to MACCNO (The Music & Culture Coalition of New Orleans). The initiative aims to support MACCNO’s mission to advocate for the city’s musicians, cultural workers and artists.
“I am truly honored to be the new Cultural Ambassador for JAMNOLA,” says Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr. “I’m excited to push the culture forward and its rich traditions with everyone who visits to help keep the authentic spirit of New Orleans alive and thriving.”
As part of his role, Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr. will lend his perspective and energy to JAMNOLA’s exhibits, events and future workshops. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view his 2023 Black Masking Indian suit, on display through January 6, 2024. The intricately crafted suit provides a firsthand look at the artistry and cultural significance of the Mardi Gras Indian tradition.
“Big Chief Bo Dollis Jr is the perfect cultural ambassador for us,” explains JAMNOLA Founder, Jonny Liss. “He embodies the vibrant and resilient spirit of New Orleans. His involvement will deepen the cultural experience for our guests and highlight the importance of preserving our unique heritage.”
JAMNOLA, short for Joy, Art & Music – New Orleans, is a 5,400-square-foot immersive museum featuring 17 exhibits that celebrate the city’s music, art, food and culture. Created in partnership with over 30 local artists, JAMNOLA serves as a love letter to New Orleans, bringing its iconic culture to life for residents and visitors alike.
Tickets to JAMNOLA are available through January 6, 2024, at JAMNOLA.com. For every ticket purchased in December, $1 will be donated to MACCNO to support its ongoing efforts in preserving New Orleans’ cultural traditions.
