‘K20: When the Water Met the Door’ Exhibit at the CAC

Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina, K20: When the Water Met the Door opens a time capsule of survival, loss and endurance with an exhibit at the CAC (Contemporary Arts Center). Through photography, sculpture, sound, and installation, thirteen artists trace waterlines across homes, furniture, and lives — markers of both devastation and resilience.

The exhibit will feature works from Keith Calhoun, Mel Chin, Jan Gilbert, Steve Gilliland, Chandra McCormick, Kathy Randels,  Karla Rosas, Ayo Scott, John Scott, Nick Slie, Jade Thiraswas, Carlie Trosclair and Danette Vincent.

Curated by artist and photographer DiQuan Forcell, the immersive exhibition invites viewers to reflect, remember, and confront the ongoing legacy of the flood that reshaped New Orleans. The opening reception will take place Friday, August 29 at 5 p.m.

This project is made possible by the Ella West Foundation, the New Orleans Recreation and Culture Fund, Louisiana Division of the Arts, and City of New Orleans Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy. Museum organizers suggest when attending K20: When the Water Met the Door that visitors should be mindful of their mental health needs while viewing the exhibition.

The Contemporary Arts Center is located at 900 Camp Street. While attendance is free, an RSVP is required by clicking here.
