The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO), the region’s premier and GRAMMY® Award-winning orchestra, presents a grand opening for its 2025-26 season with Verdi’s Requiem on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. The evening’s performance, presented in collaboration with New Orleans Opera Association, will present Giuseppe Verdi’s magnum opus of drama and devotion, uniting orchestra, soloists, and a 200-voice choir with LPO Music Director Matthew Kraemer at the helm.
“Opening the 2025-26 season with a profound work like Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem is an exciting opportunity to showcase the top-notch artistry of the LPO and members of our arts community,” says LPO Executive Director Anwar Nasir. “We cannot wait to welcome back our audiences for an evening that sets the tone for what will be a season you won’t want to miss!”

Guest artists include soprano Felicia Moore, mezzo-soprano Emily Treigle, tenor Joshua Stewart and bass Edwin Jhamaal Davis all taking the LPO stage for the very first time. Joining the evening’s guest artists will be a powerful two-hundred voice choir co-led by Loyola University’s Dr. Meg Frazier and Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus Master, David Shaler. The choir includes members from the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chorus, the Loyola Chorale, members of New Orleans Vocal Choral Arts, and local choristers from across Greater New Orleans.
