The Mystic Krewe of Barkus, the officially licensed Mardi Gras krewe dedicated to celebrating dogs, has named its 2026 monarchs: His Majesty XXXII, King JoJo Kravitz, and Her Majesty XXXII, Queen Drift Torres I.
Queen Drift Torres I is a Potcake dog rescued as a puppy in Eleuthera, Bahamas, by Sidney Torres IV, owner of IV Waste, which provides garbage collection for much of New Orleans. King JoJo Kravitz, also a Potcake breed, was adopted by Grammy-winning musician Lenny Kravitz and travels with his owner while maintaining his residence in New Orleans.
Both monarchs are native to the Bahamas and were brought to New Orleans for medical care, including heartworm treatment, prior to the 2026 Mardi Gras season. They are recognized for their rescue stories and their roles in highlighting pet adoption and animal welfare through participation in the krewe.
This year’s parade will also feature New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno’s dog, Nacho Moreno, as Celebrity Grand Marshal. The Barkus Krewe celebrates dogs and their owners while highlighting themes of rescue, resilience, and community engagement during Mardi Gras festivities.
The 33rd annual Mystic Krewe of Barkus parade in New Orleans is scheduled for Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. in the French Quarter. The 2026 parade, themed “Wicked and Wagged,” starts in Armstrong Park and moves through the Vieux Carré. For more information, click here.
