Oktoberfest New Orleans returns to Deutsches Haus (1700 Moss St.) for three festive weekends: October 10–11, 17–18, and 24–25.
Festivities officially kick off Friday, October 10 at 6 p.m. with the traditional Tapping of the Keg (or tapping of the firkin), a time-honored ritual started by Munich’s Mayor Thomas Wimmer, who famously proclaimed “O’zapft is!” — meaning “the beer is flowing.”
Special guest City Councilman Joe Giarusso III will attend this year’s opening ceremony. To mark the occasion, the Crescent City Connection will be illuminated in the colors of the German flag all weekend long.
A Taste of Bavaria on Bayou St. John
This year’s celebration features more than 800 kegs of beer, with 20 brews on tap—including imported classics from Warsteiner, Paulaner, Spaten, Franziskaner, Hofbräu, and Bitburger, alongside German-style craft creations from Urban South Brewery. Guests can also sample 10 German wines and 22 flavors of schnapps, plus traditional fare such as bratwurst, schnitzel, pretzels, stuffed cabbage rolls, roasted nuts, and strudel.
Live entertainment at Oktoberfest will keep the party going all night with a mix of traditional and contemporary German music, plus performances from local favorites including The Bräts, Wurst Case Scenario, and the 610 Stompers, who will attempt to set a record for the World’s Largest Chicken Dance on the festival’s second Saturday.
Beer steins, flower crowns, dirndls, lederhosen and other keepsakes will be available in the on-site gift shop.
