Roland Guerin stands on the edge of a new time on "Hickery Dickery"

Roland Guerin to Sub at Maple Leaf Monday, Fresh Off European Tour

New Orleans bass virtuoso Roland Guerin will take the stage Monday, July 21, at The Maple Leaf Bar, subbing in for George Porter Jr.’s weekly residency. The rare local appearance comes just after Guerin’s return from Switzerland, where he was producing and performing, including a set at Jazz Ascona.

Guerin, known for his mind-bending blend of prog, funk and jazz, released his acclaimed EP PROG:FUNK (via Louisiana Red Hot Records) earlier this year. The project landed on Tidal’s “50 Most Out There Jazz Releases” and Apple Music’s “New in Rock” playlist. He’s also the winner of Burl Audio’s Song of the Year for his track “28 Days.”

With a career that’s included stints as music director for Dr. John and bassist for Allen Toussaint, Guerin’s next album is already generating buzz. The record began in New Orleans, continued in Canada, and will wrap in Switzerland—featuring a guest spot by fellow Jazz Ascona performer and NOLA mainstay Corey Henry.

Henry, who contributed to Guerin’s new work, holds down his long-running Thursday residency at Vaughan’s Lounge. His latest release, Corey Henry and the Treme Funktet Live at Vaughan’s (Louisiana Red Hot Records), offers a fresh take on Crescent City funk.

Catch Guerin while you can. This one-night homecoming promises a bass-heavy trip through deep New Orleans grooves. To learn more about Roland Guerin, visit his website here.
