The Trombone Shorty Foundation will host the 12th Annual Shorty Fest on Monday, April 28, at Tipitina’s, bringing together artists, students and neighbors to celebrate and sustain New Orleans’ musical future.
Headlining the indoor concert are Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Black Opry Revue, and “The Jersey Takeover” featuring Dogs in a Pile with special guests Robert Randolph and Jake Clemons (E Street Band). Students from the Trombone Shorty Academy will also take the stage, highlighting the Foundation’s ongoing investment in youth music education.
The Shorty Fest evening begins outdoors at 5 p.m. with a free Cultural Block Party, as Tipitina’s blocks off Napoleon Avenue for an all-ages celebration. The outdoor programming includes performances by Trombone Shorty Academy students, a Battle of the Marching Bands featuring G.W. Carver and Abramson Sci Academy, and a set by New Groove Brass Band featuring Big Chief Juan Pardo. The block party will also include food trucks from Tanjarine and La Cocinata, a family-friendly kids’ area, a silent auction, and a VIP access tent.
A highlight of the evening will be the Tipitina’s Walk of Fame induction honoring legendary drummer Shannon Powell.
“Our favorite time of the year is finally here,” said Troy Andrews in a press release. “I’ve been blown away by the time and work our Academy students have committed to since September, and I’m excited for them to put their talents on full display.”
