The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation’s Jazz & Heritage Concert Series continues Saturday, February 28, with vocalist Stephanie Jordan presenting The New Jazz Standard at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center.
An internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist, Jordan is praised for her emotional depth, clarity and distinctive phrasing, drawing comparisons to Diana Krall and Dianne Reeves. She first gained national recognition following her performance at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Hurricane Katrina benefit concert and has since appeared at major venues and festivals worldwide, including the inaugural International Jazz Day. Her work has been featured on NPR, highlighted by the French publication Sud Ouest, labeled “JAZZHOT” by The Washingtonian, and she has been dubbed “Lady Jazz!” by Audix Microphones.
A fifth-generation New Orleanian, Jordan is the daughter of the late saxophonist Edward “Kidd” Jordan and a graduate of Howard University. Beyond her performance career, she is a certified fitness instructor, creator of Jazz Pilates and an active choir director and vocal instructor.
In 2015, Jordan was selected by then-Mayor Mitch Landrieu to perform a big band and strings arrangement of “Home” from The Wiz at the city’s Katrina 10 Commemoration at the Smoothie King Center. The anniversary event, which marked ten years since Hurricane Katrina, featured appearances by Bill Clinton and other civic leaders, underscoring Jordan’s role in one of the city’s most high-profile moments of reflection and resilience.
Jordan later described the performance as deeply personal, recalling how the song sustained her during her post-storm displacement in Maryland and noting that singing it publicly a decade later symbolized both healing and homecoming.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m. The performance is in-person only and will not be livestreamed. Tickets are available via Eventbrite here.
