Sweet Home New Orleans has launched the first two courses in its pilot Economic Empowerment Education Program, announcing the first application deadline — January 17.
The cultural organization is currently accepting applications from New Orleans musicians with a strong work ethic for these highly competitive courses, taught by leaders and innovators within the music industry.
Final decisions will be based on relevant need/experience. A maximum of seven individuals will be accepted for each course. The application process will consist of initial application review and second-round interviews.
Demand will determine how often the courses will be offered in the future.
The two courses are outlined below:
“Accessing Current Revenue Streams” ( to be held February 5-May 14). Applications are due by 4 p.m. January 17. Interviews for those who make the second round will take place the last two weeks of January, and will be scheduled as applications come in.
Per a Sweet Home release, “This course is designed for musicians who have written some of their own music and proven musical success with placement or third-party requests of placement of their music in television or film and/or music played on frequency or satellite radio. It is designed to give a strong knowledge base and hands-on acquisition of monies collected by 3rd parties for their music.”
The class will meet every two weeks (seven classes in total), with 1-5 hours of homework required between each session.
Application details are as follows:
2.) Then download this form, fill out your name and complete the yellow fields.
4.) When you are done, ensure that E23 is at 100%. If not, modify your numbers in Column E so E23 = 100%
3.) Send “Revenue Streams” worksheet retitled with your initials (e.g. “Revenue Streams SG”) to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject heading: ACRS.
For “Accessing New Revenue Streams AKA Fan-Funding” (to be held September 1-October 29, with preparations in May), applications are due by 4 p.m. March 25. Interviews for those who make the second round will take place in April.
Again, according to a Sweet Home release, “This course is designed for musicians who have a project they would like to fund. It will give hands-on training in the art of fan funding, going into detail on evaluating margins, outreach, exclusives, and fulfillment.
Because this course is expected to be more competitive, the application process is the same as Accessing Current Revenue Streams, with an additional survey added.” You are asked to apply early as the entity you would like to fund.
The class will consist of a preparation period before summer and six classes in the fall.
To apply for the second course:
3.) Then download this form, fill out your name and complete the yellow fields.
5.) Once again, when you are done, ensure that E23 is at 100%. If not, modify your numbers in Column E so E23 = 100%
6.) Send the completed “Revenue Streams” worksheet retitled with your initials (“e.g. Revenue Streams SG”) to email@example.com with the subject heading: FF.
