Why is George Porter Jr. Working with Snoop Dogg?

Why is George Porter Jr. working with Snoop Dogg, you ask? The short answer: we don’t know.

Porter posted a photo of himself with the hip-hop icon on Facebook earlier today. The image was accompanied by a caption that cryptically states, “Had a blast working with Snoop Dogg in L.A. over the past few days – can’t wait for y’all to hear it.”

So, there you have it. That’s all we know. Legendary bassist George Porter Jr. had a good time working with Snoop Dogg in Los Angeles over the past few days, and he can’t wait for us to hear it.

Considering the myriad ways in which The Meters’ music has been utilized by hip-hop artists over the years, having a member of the band team up with such an esteemed rapper seems like a fantastic idea. We can’t wait to hear it too, George.

In related—and possibly relevant—news, both The Meters and Snoop Dogg will be performing at this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

UPDATE: Cyril Neville posted a video of himself in a Los Angeles studio with Porter, Ivan Neville, Ian Neville and Terence Higgins earlier this week. However, Snoop Dogg was not present in the video, and we’re not sure if the footage is from a session involving him.

UPDATE #2: Live for Live Music has pointed out that North Mississippi Allstars drummer Cody Dickinson posted photos of himself, Porter, vocalist William Bell and others in the studio with Snoop Dogg earlier this week.
