Booked to appear are: Galactic, Anders Osborne, the New Orleans Suspects, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Walter Wolfman Washington & The Roadmasters, Bonerama, Flow Tribe, the Honey Island Swamp Band, Dumpstaphunk, Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes, and John Gros (Papa Grows Funk).
Surprise guest appearances are pretty much a given at this point. Events before the main concert will include a silent auction of various desirable items. In the past these have included everything from framed photos to live appearances from local bands at the winning bidder’s house.
Over the 12 years the show has been held, Instruments A-Comin’ has raised $2.2 million to put high-quality musical instruments in more than 75 Louisiana public, charter and parochial schools. More than 4,000 students got a musical education as a result.
Those with good hearts and deep pockets can spring for the “VIP Experience” inside which includes an open bar and free food, plus exclusive balcony access and a “VIP Lounge” before the main show. However, a gang of free, feisty outdoor events, including the auction and a second line parade with battle of the high school marching brass bands, begin mid-afternoon. Doors for the main show indoors open at 8pm.
