Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave headline Shorty Fest benefit May 2

Presented by Presqu’ile Winery of Santa Maria Valley, CA, the show will feature two stages of live music, with the students from the Trombone Shorty Academy kicking off the night. The Academy, a partnership with Tulane University’s New Orleans Center for the Gulf South, teaches high school musicians skills in ensemble performance, focuses on music history, and develops business acumen.

By cultivating the next generation of up-and-coming New Orleans performers, the Academy ensures that the city’s deeply-rooted musical heritage remains alive and well.

Formed by 27-year-old New Orleans musician, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, the Trombone Shorty Foundation’s mission is to preserve and perpetuate the musical culture of New Orleans by passing its traditions down to future generations of musicians. Born and raised in the city’s Treme neighborhood, Troy earned the nickname “Trombone Shorty” at the age of 4, while performing in a second-line street parade. It stuck. Mentored by some of the city’s most important musicians, Troy is now “passing it on” to the next generation.
