Backtalk: Jimmy Cliff

The voice of Jimmy Cliff is that of reggae music. With its Jamaican lilt, it holds the history of the music’s evolution and its socially conscious purpose. Cliff, 66, was a teenager when he traveled from his family home in St. James, Jamaica and headed to Kingston to pursue his musical dreams. At 14, he went into the studio of the legendary Leslie Kong to record the ska-driven masterpiece, “Hurricane Hattie.”
