Various Artists, Pure Swamp Gold Volume 7 (CSP)

An apt subtitle for this one would be Working the Catalog Volume 7, as more than 20 percent of CSP’s catalog is currently devoted to swamp pop collections. Actually, this 21-track collection has got more old school R&B, and rock ’n’ roll in it than it has pure swamp pop. On the rock side, Kane Glaze does it up on, “Rip It Up” and Crosscut sells “See You Later Alligator.” On the R&B side, Bridge City’s Wayne Foret shines on “Juanita.” Of course there’s a Fats Domino cover, Crosscut’s “Poor Me,” and a couple New Orleans nuggets done by Van Broussard. Broussard also contributes the two true swamp pop tracks on the disc, “On Bended Knees,” and “Just a Dream.” No big hits here but hey—this is the stuff that fills the dance floor on Saturday nights down south Louisiana way.
