6t’9 Pumpkin Parade welcomes participants of all ages for Halloween procession

The 6t’9 Social Aid & Pleasure Club will roll from Treme into the French Quarter on Saturday, October 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. The satirical, family-oriented group will accept dues-paying participants at Little People’s Place, 1226 Barracks Street, or the starting point of parade, at 1020 Henriette Delille Street, beginning at 3 p.m. on October 30. The  costumed procession will include the Northside Skull and Bone Gang, the Spirit of the Fi Yi Yi Mardi Gras Indian chief, and New Orleans Baby Dolls.

“While this year we will not be bringing candy to the children in the backstreets of New Orleans, we hope the French Quarter will be filled with families having fun,” wrote krewe captain L.J. Goldstein in a Facebook post. “It will be a mélange of a mock jazz funeral and celebratory return to the streets for the club.”

The parade will depart 1020 Henriette Delille and turn left down St. Philip Street crossing Rampart Street into the French Quarter where it will turn right onto Royal Street before disbanding location at the Eighth District Police Headquarters, 334 Royal Street.

The 6t’9 parade aspires to be diverse, cross-generational and fun for kids of all ages. Dues are $69 for one adult and up to two two supervised children; $120 for two adults and up to four supervised children; and $500 for previously established groups of up to ten adults and up to twenty  children who are parading with a coherent group theme. The fee for paid participants in the anticipated krewedelusion 2022 parade and up to two supervised children is $3. All parade participants must wear a costume with a preference for adhering to the theme, “Get Stabbed, Get Jabbed, Get the Shot!”

Parade organizers ask that all eligible participants show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination and wear a face mask. Krewe members are responsible for their own family-friendly throws, and while most revelers stock up on candy, others spend days crafting the most beautiful, ingenious, and biting satirical throws. Plastic Mardi Gras beads are not allowed.

The 6t’9 Social Aid & Pleasure Club was founded in 2005 and organized the first costumed parade after Hurricane Katrina. For more information, visit the 6t’9 Facebook page or email [email protected]. Parade participants who join krewedelusion will receive a discount.
