Angelina Jolie Files for Divorce from Brad Pitt

Countless New Orleanians will be heartbroken to learn the Crescent City’s favorite celebrity-couple-that-occasionally-lives-here is no more.

Yes, we’re talking about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. According to digital gossip rag TMZ, Jolie filed legal documents on Monday that cited irreconcilable differences. The filing noted that the couple separated last Thursday, and that Jolie is seeking physical custody of their six children, along with visitation rights for Pitt.

One of Jolie’s lawyers, Robert Offer, also told the Associated Press that her decision was made “for the health of the family.”

Jolie and Pitt have, to varying degrees, resided in New Orleans since 2007, when the former couple purchased a $3.5 million French Quarter mansion. The pair became involved in the local community, with Pitt raising millions of dollars for housing redevelopment in the Ninth Ward via his Make It Right Foundation.

Jolie and Pitt put their home on the market for $6.4 m,illion in 2015, though the price was eventually slashed to $5.65 million (The home is no longer for sale, and NOLA.com reports the property has not changed hands). The former couple’s home was no ordinary mansion either. As OffBeat explained last year, the Governor Nicholls Street building was the location of the legendary Cosimo Matassa’s recording studio from 1959 to 1960.

There’s currently no word on what will happen to the home, but it would be nice if Pitt could still find the time to play catch with Drew Brees and Matthew McConaughey every once in awhile.
