Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco will appear at Baldwin & Co. on Thursday, March 5 for an intimate conversation celebrating her new book, The Spirit of Ani: Reflections on Spirituality, Feminism, Music, and Freedom, out March 3.
Coauthored with writer and editor Lauren Coyle Rosen, The Spirit of Ani offers a deeply personal look at DiFranco’s creative life and inner evolution, weaving together reflections on spirituality, activism, feminism and artistic freedom. The book features previously unpublished photographs, journal entries, song-birth sheets, paintings and lyrics from some of her most beloved songs, revealing how her music and visual art are shaped by a lifelong practice of listening—for inspiration, connection, and truth.
At Baldwin & Co., DiFranco will discuss her life’s work and the ideas at the heart of the book, exploring how creativity can be both meditative and activating, personal and political. Known for her striking openness, DiFranco continues to create work that not only reflects the world, but seeks to empower, transform, and heal.
DiFranco founded Righteous Babe Records in 1990, becoming one of the most influential independent artists of her generation. Her 2019 memoir, No Walls and the Recurring Dream, was a New York Times bestseller and she is also the author of two children’s books, The Knowing and Show Up and Vote. In 2024, she completed a five-month Broadway run as Persephone in Hadestown.
