Art, Beats And Lyrics Returns to New Orleans with Scarface, Rich Medina and More

Art, Beats, And Lyrics — a traveling show fusing music and visual art — transformed the Howlin’ Wolf into a sensory dreamscape on January 22.

Artists, DJs, and rappers of international and local fame came together for the event.  Headlining were Scarface, Rich Medina and Wally Sparks, with New Orleans DJs RQ Away and Nesby Phips.  Representing the New Orleans art scene were Ana Hernandez, Diwang and J Hand.  Jack Daniels, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, helped produce the event, providing complimentary whiskey cocktails.  “We want to celebrate the independent spirit and creativity people bring to the world,” said Casey Nelson, a spokesperson for the brand.

Guests danced around the installations, which included everything from black and white photography to sculpture-painting hybrids.  “For some people, this is the first art show they’ve gone to,” said Dubelyoo, the curator.  “We want to make it exciting.  You’re not just looking at a painting.  You’re looking at a setting, an environment.”
