Auudi's artwork will be on display as part of the Real Recognize Real exhibit

Real Recognize Real exhibition features Auudi, Nesby Phips and other local artists

The Real Recognize Real art exhibition will take place at Studio 633 on Oct. 19, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Rapper and painter Jesus Cyph will curate the event, highlighting the work of many talented New Orleans artists, which include Auudi, Ceaux Young, Casey Shaw and Nesby Phips.

Lil Jodeci will DJ the event, performing his brand of house, techno and bounce. In 2018, OffBeat nominated Lil Jodeci for Best DJ during the Best of the Beat Awards. Although his work is sometimes considered out of the norm for a black musician, Lil Jodeci hopes to remind listeners of dance music’s black roots. “I started to realize that disco, house, all that shit is created from jazz, Congo Square. That’s the history of our music, and it’s Black music,” said Lil Jodeci.

Ceaux Young’s work can be seen across the city, from Claiborne Ave. and Orleans Ave. to Hollygrove, where Ceaux Young’s mural to Lil Wayne resides. Art By Jay, another Real Recognize Real featured artist, frequently creates collaborative works with Ceaux Young at BUKU Fest.

“Honored to be on this roster. One time for the greats I’ll be standing next to. Be there people,” wrote painter and musician Nesby Phips on Instagram. “When I’m making music, I see sounds, just as I see color when I paint. And while I’m making music, I’m factoring in colors, I’m factoring in moods,” Phips told OffBeat in 2016, speaking about the intersection between his music and his paintings.

In 2018, Axiom Art Gallery (4613 Freret St.) showcased Auudi’s work at the “Enjoy Auudi” show, what Auudi describes as “an art show about something and nothing.”

Studio 633 is located in the CBD, across from the Ace Hotel and above Aveda Paris Parker Salon & Spa, at 633 Carondelet St.
