Backstreet Cultural Museum announces All Saints Day tribute to the culture

On Thursday, November 1, the Backstreet Cultural Museum will honor All Saints Day with its 19th annual event celebrating New Orleans culture and the recently departed.

The Treme Brass Band and All Saints Altar will lead a parade kicking off at 3 p.m. This year, the event will honor Thomas Sparks, the Big Chief of the Yellowjackets who passed away in 2018. Also honored will be the Reverend Goat Carson, who passed away earlier this year.

The route is as follows:
Start: Rhodes Funeral Home, 1716 N. Claiborne Ave. Out Claiborne to St. Anthony.

Right on St. Anthony to N. Robertson.

Up N. Robertson to St. Bernard Ave.

Right on St. Bernard to N. Claiborne.

Left on Claiborne to St. Philip St.

Stop: Charbonnet Family Services, 1615 St. Philip St.

Proceed down St. Philip to Treme St.

Left on Treme to Barracks St. Right on Barracks.

Stop: Little People’s Place, 1226 Barracks St.

Proceed on Barracks to N. Rampart St.

Right on Rampart to Ursulines.

Right on Ursulines to Henriette Delille St.

Right on Henriette Delille St.

Disband: Backstreet Cultural Museum, 1116 Henriette Delille St.

Once at the Museum, folks will be invited to partake in refreshments and presentations. There, the Louisiana Folklife Commission will honor Backstreet Cultural Museum founder and director Sylvester Francis, an Honorary Louisiana Tradition Bearer.
