Bean Madness 2018 Is Cooking Up The Championship Showdown On April 7

Last week, OffBeat reported that Krewe of Red Beans’ Bean Madness 2018 was down to its “Sweet 6-Bean” bracket, where competitors vied for bragging rights of having the best red beans in town. Today (March 29), the annual competition hosts its “Great Pl-eight” bracket and March 31, its “Final Fork.” But the main event is April 7, when the Southern Food & Beverage Museum hosts the Bean Madness 2018 Championship.

Just four weeks ago, 57 competing restaurants and chefs were in the ring, but the vast majority has been annihilated. The remaining contenders as of today are Joey K’s, Tracy’s Irish Channel Bar, Chef Cedrick Lewis (last year’s crowned champ), Three Muses, Chef D’z Cafe, The Old Coffee Pot, Toula’s Creole Cafe, & Ma Momma’s House of Cornbread, Chicken, and Waffles. By the time April 7 rolls around, all that remains will be a head-to-head between the two remaining contenders, but the Championship event isn’t just a food competition. There will also be live music, provided by Margie Perez and Muevelo, plus WWOZ’s DJ Alsky and the children of Make Music NOLA. Make Music NOLA is one of the two local non-profits who receive funding from proceeds raised by Bean Madness (the other is Anna’s Place).

Tickets for the Bean Madness 2018 Championship range from $15 to $50 and are available here. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, please visit the Krewe of Red Beans website.
