On Friday, May 9, the inaugural Mothers of Americana Gala will usher in a new tradition, celebrating the legacy and rising voices of Black women in Americana, folk and roots music. Presented by BlackAmericana Fest, the gala marks the official launch of the 2025 festival season with a vibrant evening of music, memory and cultural celebration.
The gala serves as both a tribute and a call to recognition—honoring the Black foremothers who helped shape American music and spotlighting contemporary artists who continue to push its boundaries. Taking place in an atmosphere of elegance and intention, the event will combine soul-stirring performances with a rich culinary experience and curated art offerings.
The evening’s musical lineup features three dynamic performers whose artistry embodies the spirit of the event. Charmaine Neville will bring her generational soul and deep musical roots to the stage. She will be joined by genre-defying folk-rock vocalist and OffBeat cover star Lilli Lewis and rising Americana talent Amethyst Starr, known for her emotionally resonant performances.
In addition to the music, guests will enjoy bites from two of the city’s most acclaimed culinary talents. Tanjarine Kitchen—recognized by USA Today as one of the Top 20 Vegan Restaurants in the Southeast—will present plant-based creations alongside offerings from The Taylored Chef, known for bold, crowd-pleasing flavors. Desserts will be provided by Cupcake Fairies, and a silent art auction and raffle will add to the celebratory atmosphere.
The gala is a fundraiser for BlackAmericana Fest, a two-day festival held each September in New Orleans. Now entering its second year, the festival centers Black artists in Americana and roots traditions through accessible performances, community panels, and storytelling events. With a mission to amplify untold narratives and foster cross-cultural understanding, the festival continues to grow as a cultural touchstone for inclusive music celebration.
