The Breton Sound Asks “Why Are You Still Here?” On Latest Single

Jonathan Pretus (vocals/guitar), Stephen Turner (lead guitar), John Bourgeois (drums), and Joe Bourgeois (bass) together form the Breton Sound, the Louisiana Music Prize-winning band that has moved crowds at Jazz Fest and Voodoo Fest in the past. Earning acclaim for both their exciting live performances and robust musical stylings, the New Orleans natives pepper their music with elements of classic rock, ‘90s alt pop, metal, prog rock, punk, ska, and indie. All of that and then some is found on the group’s latest single, “Why Are You Still Here?”

Recorded at Esplanade Studios, the 1920s church-turned-recording facility in which Mary J. Blige, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello and the Roots have laid down material, it’s a classic break-up song focusing on that little thing some people have that just doesn’t allow us to shake ourselves free of their memory. As Pretus describes it, “there’s always some kind of trigger reminding you of that person; a song, a movie, a place…some kind of memory. ‘Why Are You Still Here?’ is about the frustration you’re met with when desperately trying to shake off that ghost.”

The band is currently wrapping up an as-yet-untitled E.P.
