Celebrate a postponed Bastille Day at a July 27 block party

On July 27, Cafe Degas, Swirl Wine Bar & Market and Jamie Lynn Vessels are calling all Francophiles to come celebrate Bastille Day at the Faubourg St. John Merchants Bastille Day Block Party. While Bastille Day, July 14, may have already passed, New Orleans will be celebrating a bit late this year thanks to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Barry, who quite literally rained on the fun. Since this marks the block party’s 13th year, it will take more than Barry to stop this fête.

The 3100 block of Ponce de Leon will fill with neighborhood merchants selling food and beverages; additionally, the block party will host an arts market where attendees will find local crafts and artwork. Participants in the event include 1000 Figs, Cafe Degas, Catty Shack, Liuzza’s by the Track, Santa Fe, Nonna Mia, Lola’s and more. There will be two bands performing for guests, and costumes are encouraged. An award will be gifted to the best Marie Antoinette or Napoleon costume.

Taking place from 4:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., the block party has events planned throughout the afternoon and into the night. There will be dancing from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Jamie Lynn Vessels will play from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., Cynthia Scott will perform her rendition of “La Marseillaise” at 5:30 p.m. and Harmonouche with Raphael Bas will perform from 7:35 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

The 3100 block of Ponce de Leon is between North Lopez St. and Esplanade Ave. For more information visit the event’s Facebook page, here.
