The City of New Orleans has announced an upcoming lottery for qualified artists to obtain permits necessary for selling art in Jackson Square in the French Quarter. The lottery is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 6, providing an opportunity for artists to secure their permits and showcase their work in this iconic location.

According to City Code requirements, artists selling art in or around Jackson Square must obtain an Occupational License and Mayoralty Permit from the Department of Finance’s Bureau of Revenue.

The public lottery for new “Artist A” permits will be conducted by the Bureau of Revenue on Saturday, April 6, starting at 10 a.m. The venue for the lottery is set at City Hall, located at 1300 Perdido St., Room 1W15. Qualified applicants are invited to participate, and they should enter through the Perdido Street entrance.

Eligibility for obtaining a Jackson Square “Artist A” permit extends to qualified applicants who either hold a current Pirates Alley “Artist B” permit or have submitted an application for a Jackson Square Artist Permit on or before Jan. 31, 2024.

Interested individuals who meet the qualifications must apply in person from Thursday, March 28 through Thursday, April 4, during the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The application process will take place at the Department of Finance’s Bureau of Revenue office, located on the first floor of City Hall.
