Known for his prowess as a pianist, singer, and songwriter, Davell Crawford, dubbed “The Prince of New Orleans,” has deep roots in the city’s musical heritage. Raised in the church and the grandson of R&B star James “Sugar Boy” Crawford, Davell’s musical journey began at the tender age of seven. Unbeknownst to him, his grandfather’s gift of a keyboard at age 11 set the stage for a remarkable career that led him to tour Europe in his early teens.

Crawford’s music seamlessly blends funk, gospel, and R&B, showcasing his versatility across piano playing, songwriting, and singing. With over seven albums released since 1995 on prestigious imprints like Rounder Records and Basin Street Records, Davell Crawford is hailed by Blues Access as “one of the most talented musicians alive.”

January 14th holds a special significance as it marks the birthday of the late Allen Toussaint. Revered as a backroom figure in popular music, Toussaint’s influence on American music, particularly R&B, is immeasurable.
