Rapper Dee-1 releases music video for "It Ain't Safe"

Dee-1 basks in a powerful force in music video for “It Ain’t Safe”

New Orleans East native Dee-1 released a music video for “It Ain’t Safe,” a song from his newest album God and Girls. Dee was OffBeat’s cover artist in March of 2012, after releasing his mixtape I Hope They Hear Me Vol. 2. He went on to co-host the green carpet for BET’s Hip-hop awards in 2017.

Dee’s album is, as the title suggests, about his thoughts on God and Girls. In a recent interview written by Fouad Abou-Rizk for Jam the Hype, Dee said, “I feel like those are the two most powerful forces in the world: God and girls.” Dee described ”It Ain’t Safe” as a fun summer anthem that he wants people to smile and dance to.

Dee’s latest album is the most recent example of his exponential growth in Rap music. In college, Dee made music he described as unoriginal.  In his cover story with OffBeat, Dee said, “I talked about girls, guns and money like all my friends did.” By making this kind of music, Dee said he was being “truer to himself.”

In the video produced by DeMarco Films, Dee shows us the happiest moments of starting a relationship with a partner. He starts taking dance lessons he sees via an Instagram post. As he gets better at dancing, he also falls hard for his dance instructor. The chorus, “It ain’t safe to love somebody this much,” gives the song its name.
