The New Orleans legend will be the only artist on the bill that actually performed at the original show, which took place at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on November 25, 1976.

Dr. John will join the Midnight Ramble Band, a spin off the Levon Helm Band that continued playing after The Band drummer’s death in 2012, for the gig. The show will be musically directed by longtime Levon Helm collaborator Larry Campbell, and will feature appearances by Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, Anderson East, Howard John and others.

The tribute will take place at Damrosch Park–near the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts–as part of New York City’s annual AmericanaFest. It will be free and open to the public.

As previously reported, Warren Haynes also led a 40th anniversary tribute to the Last Waltz during Jazz Fest. That celebration featured Dave Malone, John Medeski, Cyril Neville, Ivan Neville, Lukas Nelson and more.
