For Cooley, the man behind DBT staples such as “Where the Devil Don’t Stay,” “Carl Perkins Cadillac” and several others, his one-man show took shape following a three-night, barroom junket in Atlanta in March 2012, which ultimately culminated in the release of his first solo outing, The Fool on Every Corner. The disc includes stripped-down renderings of Truckers’ favorites, a nonchalant cover of Charlie Rich’s country classic “Behind Closed Doors” and Cooley’s previously unreleased diamond in the rough “Drinking Coke and Eating Ice.” Removed from the Southern rock spectacle, Cooley’s laid-back picking and unassuming drawl plainly and poignantly captures the restless heart that fuels the Truckers’ down-home spirit.

Doors for Cooley’s show at Gasa Gasa open at 8:00 p.m. The venue is located 4920 Freret Street (map).

Tickets are $20 and available in advance online through TicketFly, or at the door, provided they do not sell out in advance (venue is limited capacity). NOTE: advance tickets via Gasa Gasa’s TicketWeb are now sold out, online purchases must be made through TicketFly here.
