Efforts are underway to fund Keith “Wolf” Anderson’s funeral arrangements

Chris Anderson, sister of trombonist Keith “Wolf” Anderson is organizing a fundraiser for the musician who passed away January 13 at Our Lady of Angels Hospital in Covington.

Anderson wrote: “We are coming to you today, to ask for donations to bring him back home, to make New Orleans his final resting place. Any amount will help us tremendously, and be greatly appreciated.”

Wendell Pierce announced on Facebook, “One of New Orleans Brass Band modern day legends has died. If you heard a huge trombone sound, a soulful solo, and a musician squatting down in a groove, it was ‘Wolf.’ I loosely based ‘Antoine Batiste‘ in Treme on this talented man. Play yo horn Wolf!!!”

Keith “Wolf” Anderson was born in Chicago in 1964. He moved to New Orleans in 1973 and graduated from St. Augustine High School. Throughout his musical career, he recorded with The Dirty Dozen and Rebirth brass bands and with Doreen Ketchens. A member of Hot 8 Brass Band, Anderson cited The Olympia, Dirty Dozen, and Tuxedo brass bands as some of his influences.”Wolf” Anderson started with Rebirth and was a regular in Jackson Square. He was also a familiar face at Royal and St. Peter streets, playing out front of Rouse’s and many times with clarinetist Ketchens.
