Enrollment open for summer camp at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music

The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music is accepting applications for its six-week summer camp for youth ages 8 to 18. Students engage in music, dance, audio, video, and lighting production as well as reading and math enrichment.

Enrolled students are provided with an instrument, and all have the opportunity to take beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons in a range of subjects, including music theory and piano (both required for all students as part of the base curriculum), strings, percussion, woodwinds and brass, vocal, jazz band (traditional big band, improvisation, and New Orleans jazz), orchestra, computer literacy (weekdays only), homework assistance (weekdays only), music production (Saturdays and summer only), video production (Saturdays only for ages 13–18), audio and lighting production, dance and Mardi Gras Indian beading. No prior musical experience is required.

The Center, located at 1901 Bartholomew Street in the Musicians Village, primarily serves the 9th Ward and New Orleans East communities. Registration is open citywide with priority given to students living in the following zip codes: 70116, 70117, 70119, 70125, 70126, 70127, 70128, 70129, 70032 and 70122.

The nonrefundable registration fee for the summer programs is $30 per student. Students must be fully vaccinated (proof required), and enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
