Friends of the Cabildo announce concert series

The Friends of the Cabildo (FOC), a statewide nonprofit group that sponsors and enriches the Louisiana State Museum, announced the lineup for their annual concert series. All shows will be located at the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the third-floor performance space, a 100-person venue that hosts some of the most intimate concerts in the city. Tickets are always limited for these shows and concerts are recorded for the Louisiana State Museum Archives. All concerts are at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, September 15 – Mark Braud & the New Orleans Jazz Giants

Trumpeter and vocalist Mark Braud is the quintessence of the New Orleans spirit. His energetic interpretations of melody craft a freshly unpredictable spin on the tradition of jazz and the down-home, honest grooves of New Orleans.  Born in New Orleans, Braud comes from a family of world-renowned musicians. Traditional jazz, R&B and the great American songbook inspire his engaging music. Tickets are $30 for the general audience and $20 for FOC members

Friday, October 7 – C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band

Creole-born C.J. Chenier was raised in an indigenous American culture with a distinctive language, cuisine and music. A Grammy-nominated,  world-renowned musician and recording artist, he has performed alongside many internationally recognized artists including his Grammy Award-winning father, Clifton Chenier (“The King of Zydeco”), Paul Simon, Joe Sample and Ray Parke. Chenier delivers soulful vocals along with masterful accordion-driven Zydeco and Blues. Tickets are $65 for the general audience and $50 for members. 

Saturday, December 17 – 105th Professor Longhair Birthday Celebration with Kyle Roussel – 

Celebrate the 105th birthday of New Orleans legend Professor Longhair with famed pianist Kyle Roussel. A dynamic example of a modern New Orleans musician, Roussell has managed to forge his own path while collaborating with a variety of musical masters. A graduate of the famed New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and the University of New Orleans, he began playing the piano at age 9 and studied classical music before moving on to perform in church while also exploring jazz in his teenage years. These days, Kyle is equally adept in the worlds of jazz, classical, funk, gospel, rhythm and blues, and rock—his diverse influences shape his personal musical identity and providing inspiration at every turn. Tickets are $30 for the general audience and $20 for members. 

Friday, January 27 – Marcia Ball 

The 2018 Texas State Musician Of The Year, Marcia Ball has won worldwide fame and countless fans for her ability to ignite a full-scale roadhouse party every time she takes the stage. Born in Orange, Texas, and raised in Vinton, Louisiana, Ball’s deep Acadian heritage and a lifetime of absorbing Gulf Coast rhythm and blues is evident in her original songs and the classics she chooses to cover. This has made her a one-of-a-kind favorite with music lovers all over the world. With each new release, her reputation as a profoundly soulful singer, a boundlessly talented pianist and a courageous, inventive songwriter continues to grow. Tickets are $65 for the general audience and $50 for members. 

Friday, March 10 – Sonny Landreth

This South Louisiana artist’s groundbreaking work has long mixed familiarity with experimentation, and his latest 10-song collection stretches from hard-edged electric instrumentals to wistful acoustic ballads. Sonny Landreth’s innovative guitar techniques have opened doors to new sonic textures and a complex tonal vocabulary, all bound by the bayou rhythms of his longtime bandmates. His expressive, ethereal guitar work can be heard on hundreds of recordings from artists ranging from John Mayall to John Hiatt. Tickets are $65 for the general audience and $50 for members.

Friday. April 21 – The Iguanas

A fixture of the New Orleans music scene for over two decades, THE IGUANAS’ music is an infectious mix of America’s musical heritage – Tejano and Conjunto sounds from the Texas/Mexico border region, the American South’s Blues, Jazz and New Orleans R&B, as well as the fiery passion of the music of the Caribbean and Mexico. Taking their cues from all of these influences and then some, The Iguanas redefine the notion of Americana, crossing cultures, styles, eras… and even languages. It is not surprising then that the members of The Iguanas have (collectively or individually) played or recorded with everyone from Charlie Rich, Alex Chilton, and Willy DeVille to Emylou Harris, Allen Tousaint, and Pretty Lights. Tickets $30 for general audience and $20 for members.
