Grammy U Expands Membership Access

Grammy U has taken a significant stride towards inclusivity to further its mission of nurturing budding music talents. Since its establishment in 2006, Grammy U has acted as a gateway for college students across the world with aspirations in the music industry. Now, the Recording Academy’s membership program has broadened its horizons in a transformative move.

Effective August 15, the application guidelines for Grammy U have undergone a significant evolution. The previous requirement of college enrollment has been removed, paving the way for a more diverse range of individuals to benefit from the program. Aspiring music professionals aged 18 to 29, irrespective of their educational background, can now leverage the resources and opportunities offered by Grammy U.

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, emphasized the program’s historical dedication to fostering emerging music creators and professionals. He noted, “With this expansion, Grammy U is ensuring that membership will be more inclusive and accessible for the next generation of music creators and professionals, regardless of their chosen path.”

Rocky Leonard, a recent Loyola University New Orleans graduate and former student member, shared her enthusiasm for the program, stating, “Grammy U helped me connect with music professionals in New Orleans and got me into many rooms that I may otherwise not have been in. The program also did a great job of fostering an environment where like-minded student artists and professionals can come together and collaborate.”

The refined eligibility requirements for Grammy U membership now encompass two options:

Option 1: Full-Time Student

  • Enrolled full-time (nine credits) in an accredited college, university, or trade school.
  • Pursuing degrees ranging from Associate to Ph.D.

Option 2 (NEW): Professional / Creative, 18-29

  • Professionals or creatives aged 18-29 pursuing music careers.
  • Students aged 18-29, studying part-time at college, participating in certificate courses, or engaged in other programs.

Since its inception in 2006, GRAMMY U has acted as a pivotal bridge connecting aspiring music professionals with the industry they aspire to be part of. Having attracted over 32,000 members, the program has consistently served as a springboard for young talents striving to make their mark in music.

This expansion of eligibility marks a significant stride towards democratizing access to music industry opportunities, fostering a more inclusive community of music creators and professionals.
