Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Railroad Earth, Shovels & Ropes, The London Souls and Fruit Bats are among the artists that will perform at Hogs for the Cause when the music festival, BBQ competition and fundraiser returns to New Orleans on March 31 and April 1. Shovels & Rope’s appearance will be a bit of a makeup show, as the husband-and-wife duo was forced to cancel its set at Hogs for the Cause 2016 due to inclement weather.

Now in its ninth year, the festival will move to a new location on the fields adjacent to the UNO Lakefront Arena for 2017. It will also expand to three stages and enlist more artists than ever before.
Other acts on the bill include legendary bassist George Porter Jr. and his band Runnin’ Pardners, rising Shreveport-based rock band Seratones, Georgia indie rockers Futurebirds and youthful blues rock disciples the Marcus King Band. Local favorites like Naughty Professor, Good Enough for Good Times, New Breed Brass Band, Colin Lake Band and Motel Radio will perform as well.
“We are so excited about the music — it offers attendees the quintessential American music experience,” says Hogs for the Cause Director and Co-Founder Becker Hall. “This year’s bands were carefully curated to offer our audience the best of the best in America music.”
Of course, Hogs for the Cause is about more than just the music. The annual gathering features untold deliciousness from dozens of amateur and professional barbecuers, who all compete for the festival’s coveted prizes. Most importantly, the festival is a nonprofit event that raises money for the families of children with pediatric brain cancer.
Hogs for the Cause 2016 brought sets from Greensky Bluegrass, Deer Tick, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Sweet Crude, Kristin Diable and more to City Park. Shovels & Rope, Dragon Smoke, Twiddle and others were scheduled to perform at the festival, but their set were called off when heavy rains forced the cancellation of Hogs’ Friday festivities.
